Renee Good, a 37-year-old woman, was shot dead by a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent on January 7. The incident occurred during a protest against the deployment of armed and often masked federal agents in Minneapolis.
The family of Renee Good has filed two lawsuits against the federal government and several Trump administration officials over her killing.
What Happened That Day?
The shooting was captured on cellphone video, which showed Good's partner, Becca Good, standing outside the SUV calling the agent 'big boy' and telling him to remove the covering from his face.
Other officers at the scene could be heard telling Good to get out of the car. In the video, Good is seen turning the steering wheel away from the agent and beginning to drive.
Multiple gunshots can be heard in the video before Good's SUV crashes into a parked car.
Who's Being Sued?
The plaintiffs in the twin civil suits from the Romanucci Blandin Law firm, filed on October 1, are Good's brother Brent Ganger – acting as trustee for her other next of kin including her three children – and her partner Becca Good.
One names the United States of America as the sole defendant. The other names a series of responsible government and border control officials, including but not limited to the ICE officer who shot Good in her car, White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy Stephen Miller, and the US Secretary of Homeland Security at the time of the shooting, Kristi Noem.
What's Next?
The lawsuits are the beginning of the ultimate legal weapon in uncovering the truth behind this unlawful use of deadly force and the nefarious conspiracies behind the invasion of American cities by American law enforcement officers.
It is worth noting that the deployment of federal agents in Minneapolis was part of Operation Metro Surge, a program aimed at reducing crime in major cities. However, the use of force by these agents has been widely criticized, with many arguing that it has led to an escalation of violence and a disregard for civil liberties.
The family of Renee Good is seeking justice for her killing, but the outcome of the lawsuits is far from certain. The federal government has a history of using its power to silence critics and suppress dissent, and it remains to be seen whether the courts will hold the responsible parties accountable.
